In case you were at all curious about the domain name — and have you tried to go hunting for a half-way sane domain name lately? — the feline shown right is a Spoobles. He is an Egyptian Mau cat, the site’s official mascot, and his real name is Omar. But he most often goes by the unique moniker of Spoob or Spoobles. The name Omar is only for use when he’s in trouble.

Physically located near The Green in Richmond, www.spoobles.net is an aged — the primary server is always my most recent cast-off desktop machine and so described as aging or aged — Gateway G6 400MHz which has been pressed into service as a FreeBSD machine. When it ran Windows98^TM, uptimes in the range of 12 hours were considered great feats. Now that it’s running FreeBSD, uptimes of 200 days are nothing out of the way (and even then the downtime is usually a result of either a power failure or myself just taking the easy way out to reset a bunch of services). So if you want reliability, now you know how you can get it.
